As a school nurse supervisor in an education service agency, I provide staff trainings for hearing and vision certification. Arizona just adopted vision screening mandate August of 2019. Many schools did not do vision screening for students as it was not mandated. As nurses, we have always screened vision as a matter of practice, long before it was mandated. Leading by example is important for nurses to do. We do not always have to be overly verbal about our plans to improve care or to improve our work environment. Sometimes being faithful and diligent in our duties is all that is needed.

I read through the different traits, personalities and styles of leadership too. I agree that the servant leadership style is rounder and more ideal in the nursing profession. Nursing profession is very stressful, shorthanded, involves life and death quick decisions and high critical thinking skills. That is a lot to digest. But with effective leaders for support and possess the abilities you mentioned above, nurses can enjoy working and deliver what we are called for. That is high quality patient care with positive outcomes every time. Thanks to those leaders who are called to serve, the servant leaders (aka charge nurses!!)
