Best Buy How Much Redundancy Do Discussion

First post.
I’ve recently been having discussions with family and such about what’s essential, and what should be allowed to stay open. The less you close the less economic downfall but the more potential for it to spread. The government seems to be sending the message of all nonessential businesses should be shut down but that doesn’t seem to be what’s happening. I would think “essential” would mean grocery stores, gas stations and any other businesses required to keep those running like truckers and companies that make food maybe hardware stores, some basic stuff like that. There are many things that are open and are trying to claim they are essential that probably shouldn’t be open like Game Stop only closed recently and they had tried to justify themselves by saying they sell mice and keyboards people could need to work at home. Staples is still open, are they really essential? They also cover the basis that Game Stop was claiming, as does Best Buy how much redundancy do, we need? It’s a hard line to draw and not many businesses are going to want to close.
The more things close the fewer reasons people have to go out and the sooner things can start to get better, but some businesses and people are going to have a very hard time recovering from this. I personally think it would be better to close more things down and hope for a speedy recovery but it’s hard to know how much that might help businesses open quicker and if that potentially speedier recovery would make up for the complete loss of income for those businesses.

This pandemic has been hard on everyone all around the world. Causing economies to plummet and people to panic. The recovery rate of COVID-19 is high fortunately in this pandemic. However, that doesn’t change the high death toll and how highly contagious this is. I work in a hospital (The MIS department) and have been working overtime every week to prepare and defend against this outbreak.
My biggest concern (and many others in the health field) is people taking this pandemic seriously. People are the biggest factor in determining who lives and who dies ultimately. It all depends on how serious people take this. Unfortunately, as I work overtime, I see several peers in towns and high school friends all hanging out and going around town. That is the easiest and best way of spread and contracting this virus. Some of the symptoms don’t even show for days when you’ve already been spreading it.
The preventative factors are different for every state around the US. I live in New Hampshire, where we recently went to a somewhat state shutdown. Where non-essential jobs have been closed until further notice. This is hard on a lot of people and families who depend on these jobs for rent, food, and other essentials. Unfortunately, it’s a step in trying to lower social gathers to slow the spread. The goal of that decision isn’t meant to stop the spread, it’s mainly just to reduce at which people get infected. Healthcare in an area only has a certain number of patients that can be helped at a time(healthcare system capacity).
Instead of handling the pandemic like Spain, where they took very little proactive measures (not closing shops and restaurants) exceeded their healthcare system capacity in days because of the bad practices. This caused hundreds upon thousands of deaths there alone. With these precautionary measures, we hope to extend the amount of time COVID-19 stays with us, so that we never exceed the healthcare system capacity. What makes this difficult to calculate however is if healthcare workers get the virus the capacity goes down with it. In smaller areas like New Hampshire, every worker counts.
The best thing that can be done is people following a lockdown procedure and staying home and indoors washing their hands. It’s annoying, I understand. However, the world is pretty much fighting a war that we can’t see with the naked eye. At least in this war, we don’t have to send our children, friends, and family across seas to fight in another country. All we have to do to fight this is to stay inside and stay safe. Financial issues will continue to be a problem, however, the government is sending out money to people to help them with groceries and essentials. Unfortunately, it’s not large enough for most people to live off of but definitely helps. People can’t just get back to work while this is going on, so trying to save every penny and being creative is a must.
