BIOL 1230 Environmental Biology Paper Assignment Paper
Part 1.
Calculate your ecological footprint at https://www.footprintnetwork.org/ take a screen shot of the Summary (with # of Earths) and Facts and Figures (with pie chart, consumption category and gha), and upload with your answers. How large is your footprint? How many earths would it take to support a world of people who live like you? Does this surprise you? Explain.
Which consumption category(ies) is/are highest for you? Why? Does this surprise you? List three ways that you might reduce in these categories.
Would you be willing to take these actions? (why/why not?)

Which Land Type makes up the largest component of your footprint? Why?
What is your overshoot day? What is meant by #movethedate?
Part 2.
Click on the Explore Your Data link. How does your personal footprint compare with the average footprint of people in your home country? Make a table to compare the average footprint of your home country (in gha) to the average footprint of people in two other countries of your choice. Include the biocapacity of the country and the deficit or reserve (so 3 columns). What does this mean? How can a country make up for deficits? Discuss the consequences of this.
