Business Community Awareness and Motor Vehicle Injuries
In order to address a problem and develop a strategic plan to communicate more effectively, you need to truly understand the problem. This is true whether in academics or the workplace. A needs assessment is an exploration of a problem or situation being experienced. It is an effective tool to examine multiple facets of an issue. It allows you to view the issue through the lens of diverse stakeholders. Without conducting a needs assessment, it is extremely difficult to address any problems, particularly the complex issues often faced in health and public health settings.
In Module 1, you chose your topic of focus for developing a strategic communication plan.
Your needs assessment should include a concise, evidence-based review of the problem, important background and relevant factors about your target audience(s), and your goals and objectives for the strategic communication plan.
Identification and brief contextual description of stakeholders, informants, allies, and opponents in relation to the problem statement.
Provide a deeper analysis of the stakeholder group(s) you plan to target with your strategic communication plan.
Share what has been tried before and the results. If there is a widely agreed-upon best practice, explain this, as well.
A minimum of two goals and then 1-2 objectives per goal for your strategic communication plan.
