Embracement of Focus Groups in Research May Not Be Effective
Respond to one of your colleagues’ posts with a suggestion about using a focus group for their research idea. Your suggestion may include 3–4 interview questions to ask, considerations for sampling; or how to manage recruiting participants. $5 post
When we began to think about collecting Data from individual participants and gathering data from participants in a focus group first thing that comes to mind is the closeness and comfortableness that one person could have from doing a one on one interview. Depending on the Information that you want to get a study on it could be better if you get clear information from one person . When a person is gathering information from one person I believe that it allows that interviewer and interviewee to have a re pour that will allow that person to be more vulnerable to reveal more in depth information verses one in a focus group . I think that focus groups can have a person views and opinions be more persuaded . I also think that a person will be able to have their views changed to conform to their peers thoughts and opinions . I am thinking about doing my research on juveniles who have committed crimes due to them being molested verses juveniles who commit crimes who haven’t been molested and I would like to see if that impact on their young environment pushed them to commit more Vivid crimes then those who haven’t been in that environment . I know that my topic is very broad but I am hoping to narrow it down and find the gap . I think that dealing with offenders could be difficult when they are set in a focus groups only because offenders tend to side with the majority verses having that open relationship in an individual atmosphere . I think that the topic of molestation can be very hard to talk about and dealing with an offenders age and the environment in what they were brought up in can weigh the outcome of the data that is being gathered.
When thinking about certain questions if I was to do a focus group I think about the chart .
The Letter “L” used for Laughter
The Letter “S” is used to represent sighing
the Letter “F” is used to represent frowning
The Letter “P” is used to represent Passion
I could possibly that these codes and utilize them in my data if I was to focus on a focus group type setting .
