Identifying Methodologies and Designs for A Research
- Discuss Qualitative Research
- Discuss Quantitative Research
Identify alternative methodologies and designs and indicate why they were determined to be less appropriate than the ones selected. Do not simply list and describe research methodologies and designs in general.
Discuss each case study design. Each design should be at least 5-6 paragraphs and then conclude with why they were determined to be less appropriate.
The research methodology applied in this study is qualitative research. It refers to market research that focuses on obtaining data through open-ended questions whose answers are not easily put into numbers such as ‘how’ and ‘why’.
Qualitative approaches are majorly used to provide and explore deeper insights into real world problems. It gathers answers on experiences meaning and perspectives, often from the standpoint of the participant. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: Please do not begin a sentence with It. Eliminate vague pronoun references.
A pronoun must refer to a specific word in the sentence. “It” is a vague pronoun reference because it does not refer to a specific word in the sentence. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: Where is your reference? Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: Please do not begin a sentence with It. Eliminate vague pronoun references. Qualitative research applies numerous techniques to obtain data, including interviews, focus groups, and observations (Asper & Corte, 2019). The interviews may be unstructured, with open-ended questions on a topic and the interviewer adapts the responses. Structured interviews employ a predetermined number of questions that every participant is asked.
Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: A paragraph should be at least 5 sentences. Please visit the Academic Success Center for helpful writing tips https://library.ncu.edu/friendly.php?s=writingresources
In this study qualitative research is appropriate since it allows one to measure and examine the concepts of the research and examine the situations where the hypothesis of the research is not known. In the study, we do not know what to expect, qualitative research will help in developing an approach to the research problem and delve deeper on the impact of knowledge in management strategies on the competitive advantage of medium sized enterprises.
Qualitative research methodology is appropriate for this study since will help in gathering medium sized enterprise’s experiences, and perceptions on how the knowledge in management strategy on competitive advantage enhances their effectiveness. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: Who is we? rephrase Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: You have 5 paragraphs discussing qualitative research and only cited two authors. Please research at least 3- 5 additional authors on qualitative research.
This kind of research is referred to as the process of collecting numerical data and analyzing it. It is majorly used to find patterns, averages, predictions, as well as cause-effect relationships between the variables being studied. It is applied in generalizing the results of particular research to the population being considered. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: Be specific – what kind? Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: Please remember to write in an academic and scholarly manner.
The goal of quantitative research is to gather numerical data from a group of participants. Then generalize the results to a larger group of the participants to explain a phenomenon. It is majorly used when the study aims at getting objective and conclusive answers. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: You will need to research – write and cite. You have 1.5 paragraphs on quantitative research and did not cite one author.
The quantitative research method was determined to be less appropriate in the study because no factual data was required in the research. In our study, qualitative data was used from the readings, document reviews observation, and interviews. Quantitative, research is used when confirming or testing something such as a theory or hypothesis.
In this study, the focus and purpose were to understand and determine the impact of knowledge management strategies on the competitive advantage of Medium-Sized Enterprises, which does not necessary require numerical data since the question at hand requires answers from the views, perceptions and the experience of the participant who operate medium sizzed enterprises.
A case study is a systematic investigation of a particular group, community or unit to generate an in-depth understanding of a complex issue in a real-life context to generalize other units. An exploratory case study research design is suitable for the study. Its appropriateness is based on its ability to provide factual evidence to persuade during the research process (Rhee et al., 2015).
In addition, the research design will enhance the understanding of the variables that knowledge management and organizational cultural norms in Medium-Sized Enterprise. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: Provide a description of case study in 2 paragraphs with 4-6 citations. As the researcher for this study, you need to conduct research.
Quantitative research is done best if you are interested in determining how people feel about a certain subject matter. Qualitative research methods are most suited to our research subject regarding the effects of Knowledge Management approaches on Medium-Sized Enterprises’ competitiveness (Wang, & Wang, 2020).
The study’s investigators want to look at how well managed procedures and the generation of fresh ideas help SMEs transform. Individual persons are the unit of analysis in this study. The variables and aspects that will be studied will be observed without any effort to control and manipulate. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: All content related to quantitative research should be covered in the same paragraphs.
Quantitative research should be done if you are interested in determining how people feel about a certain subject matter. Qualitative research methods are most suited to our research subject purposed to examine the impact of knowledge management on the competitive advantage of medium-sized organizations (Wang, & Wang, 2020). The study’s investigators want to look at how well-managed procedures and the generation of fresh ideas help SMEs transform.
Individual persons are the unit of analysis in this study. The variables and aspects that will be studied will be observed without any effort to control and manipulate. The survey research design approach is the greatest match for this study. Comment by Dr. Deanna Davis: One sentence you discuss then quantitative research and then the next sentence is qualitative. Keep the content in the same sections.
The case study is research methodology that assists in exploration of a phenomenon within some particular context through various data sources and it employs the exploration through diversified of lenses for the purposes of revealing multiple facets of the study topic.
The design is most appropriate when the researcher is interested in obtaining concrete, contextual in-depth awareness about a specific real word subject (Crowe, et al, 2011). It helps in exploring the key characteristics meanings, and implications of the case. They are mostly a good choice for a dissertation or thesis.
Case study design was appropriate for this study because the purpose of the study was to get concrete and in-depth knowledge about the impact of knowledge management strategies on the competitive advantage of Medium-Sized Enterprises. They keep the research focused and manageable with the scarcity of time and resources for carrying out large-scale research.
Phenomenology refers to a qualitative research method that focuses on a person’s individual life experiences with the world. Understanding the ontological and epistemological underpinning is crucial in conducting phenomenological studies (Leung, 2015). The method aims at establishing an understanding of an individual’s life and experience. Since the method strives to understand a person, it is not applicable because the research method involves the study of many people.
Phenomenology was perceived to be less appropriate in this study due to its difficulties in analysis and interpretation, the design usually has lower levels of validity and reliability which are the main reasons why this design is not fit for the study.
Ethnography is a qualitative research methodology whereby researchers are allowed to interact with observers or participants who are taking part in the study in their real-life experience. Through anthropology, the method was popularized. The method is relatively expensive because researchers are required to travel from one point to another to gather information and hence not suitable in this study.
A set of systematic inductive methods for methods to perform qualitative research aimed at theory theoretical development is referred to as a grounded theory (Leung, 2015). This method is made of flexible strategies that enhance the inquiry process which aims at establishing theories linking the data collected with applicable theories. The method is not ideal for the current research because it is easily misunderstood.
Despite the fact that this methodology was appropriate for the study there was little that was known about the phenomenon; it is less appropriate as compared to case study since, the study topic requires general views from participants with experience, and hence, having to deal with the complexity of ground theory is unnecessary.
