Art for Palm Tree as Iraqi Culture Root Analysis
use Iraqi culture (palm trees) as an open ended activity for preschool children please focus on open ended, choose something from Iraq’s culture
All I want you to do is plan an open-ended, child directed art experiences that uses colors and shapes that you think represent your culture or home country. That’s it! This discussion is totally for fun!!
Since my heritage is Swedish, I used the colors blue, yellow, and red because they often show up in Swedish fabrics, plates and dishes, and in floral and spiral patterns. My family and I always think of Sweden when we see those colors and designs.
Now you reflect on your home culture… what colors do you think of? What designs and shapes? What motifs? (a motif is a decorative design or pattern).
After you think of these, what open-ended, child-directed, process art activity could you share with preschoolers that would use those colors, designs, shapes or motifs?
Remember… your activity cannot be a product, a teacher-directed, or a closed (meaning it can only be done one way) activity!! So even though my examples of Swedish colors showed you a flag and a horse, I would NOT do a flag or horse project with the children! I would just use those colors and motifs in an open ended collage or painting activity or printmaking activity.
