SU Climate Change Discussion
Climate change continues to be a much-debated issue in society and politics. From a scientific perspective, climate change is a reality that is taking place. Questions arise amongst scientists as to what exact consequences will occur from climate change, what is driving climate change, and what steps must be taken to minimize climate change. The link below describes some of the evidence that indicates climate change is occurring and occurring fast.
After reading Chapter 17 and the information on the NASA website, discuss your thoughts on the issue of climate change by answering the following prompts:
Do you believe that there is significant scientific evidence that supports predictions of climate change? What evidence do you find to be particularly convincing? What evidence do you find to be weak or suspect? Explain.
People often make links between recent or current weather trends and climate change. They may make statements like “this past winter was so cold, global warming must be false” or “summer was so hot, global warming is true”. Why is it misleading to conclude climate change based on short-term weather trends?
If you vote, is climate change something that influences your vote? Do you vote for politicians who accept or reject climate change? Will the information you learned in this course or this chapter influence how you vote in the future?
